Smooth sailing

Traffic on U.S. 171 northbound was light Friday morning and it took the normal 45 minutes from the I-10-U.S. 171 intersection in Lake Charles to reach DeRidder.

Brookshire Brothers grocery store was packed at 9:30 a.m. City Editor Hector San Miguel said it took him two hours to shop and check out, a shopping trip that he estimated would normally take only 30 mnutes.

At 10:30 a.m. winds in downtown DeRidder were blustery at an estimated 25-30 mph, but there was no rain.

Traffic from DeRidder to Leesville and further north to Shreveport along Interstate-49 was also light Friday morning.
