In a brief telephone interview with CNN minutes ago, Mayor Randy Roach said Lake Charles, though battered and flooded, appears to have escaped “catastrophic damage” from Hurricane Rita.
However, Roach said the city has “extensive wind damage and some very, very extensive flooding.”
Roach said even though flooding was still a problem in places, the city was preparing to dispatch public works employees, firefighters and police officers to search for any survivors.
The city is also imposing a 7 a.m.-6 p.m. curfew.

Have there been any reports of damage in the peripheral cities of Lake Charles? I've only seen reports of LC directly, but what of Holly Beach residents, Westlake, Moss Bluff, Sulphur, and Vinton cities in particular. Any news on those and damages incurred?
Len in Los Angeles
My Father and Sister are in Moss Bluff and it appears to be in pretty good shape. They live near Sam Houston High School. I understand from flood reports that the areas near the river around Sam Houston park expect some flooding when the river crests this afternoon.
I'm curious about the specifics of smaller communities. I live in Tennessee, but my family lives in Bell City and Hayes. I know it's not safe for crews to be out, but any info would be appreciated so we can pass it along to those who fled and don't have internet access. The national news seems more concerned that Galveston and Houston DIDN'T get hit than the fact that Cameron DID. So, your efforts are well appreciated and being watched all across the country.
From a former reporter who once interviewed for a job with you guys, I applaud your efforts to continue covering this. I know you're probably all tired and running on caffeine. Keep up the good work!
Any information about neighborhoods in lake charles will be VERY appreciate. I am mainly interested in the Gautier/Summerwood/Brookfield area, but I hope that EVERYONE is safe and on the dry side of the sea level.
thank you for the update about moss bluff. If you hear any more information please pass it on.
Received a report from uncle who lives near Boy's Village west of town. His house survived with damage, but a tornado apparently destroyed the metal building next to the house. He also says many telephone poles were damaged in that area.
Does anyone have any information about the St. Louis High and LCB area? My mother lives there...
How is Enterprise Boulevard. My parents live at 1803 Enterprise Boulevard and they are in there. I cannot reach them. Please help.
